The cornerstone of Humanim's constellation of human services is our vocational programming. The company was founded in 1971 to provide vocational services for individuals with disabilities. Throughout the 30 years, we have expanded employment related services, including specialized training on cultural diversity and disability awareness. Our growth is focused on building programming that complements our vocational services.
Career Assessment The first step in career planning is often a vocational evaluation to determine the individual's interest, skills and strengths. Humanim's Career Assessment services can either precede a job placement or be added during any stage of vocational planning. The service is prescriptive and tailored to meet the needs of the individual and referral source. A final report identifies the attributes, interests and skills of the individual and addresses vocational recommendation that will assist with career planning.
Job Placement Successful placement in competitive employment is the focus of Humanim's Job Placement Services. Job development is an ongoing process that is ingrained in the culture of Humanim. Our placement professionals are assertive human service sales personnel who continually add to Humanim's job bank. The placement professionals focus on the continual development of leads to arrive at a successful job match for employee and employer.
Job Coaching Successful placement is always contingent upon the new employee's ability to meet the needs of the employer. To ensure this goal, it is often necessary to provide Job Coaching and retentions services to the employee. This will vary from occasional contact to intensive daily coaching. The focus is to transition the new employee to as minimal amount of job coaching as possible. The desired outcome is to have the employee and employer view the partnership as successful.
Students To Employment Program One of the most important variables determining the success of a student with a disability is the extent and timing of vocational intervention. Created as a collaborative effort in 1985, the S.T.E.P. program of Humanim was one of the first transitional school student programs in the state of Maryland. Humanim staff work closely with the school system, families, the Division of Rehabilitation Services and the student to provide placement and vocational guidance prior to the student exiting the school system.
Supported Employment Alternatives Humanim recognized that there is a need for employment alternatives that require ongoing support. Several options including contractual arrangements, placement in a work enclave in the community and work cooperatives enable individuals to work with various levels of support.
Welfare To Work (Workforce Solutions) Workforce Solutions is Humanim's welfare to work program. Through career assessment, brief classroom instruction, aggressive job placement program and job retention services, individuals are given the opportunity to attain financial independence.
