Humanim's Deaf Services programs are offered to individuals who need vocational support on a short or long term basis. We assist individuals who are deaf in obtaining and maintaining employment through our vocational support services, which include job readiness, training, placement and coaching. Professional staff in Deaf Services may be hearing or deaf and are fluent in sign language. They are experienced in providing competitive employee services to the deaf community and have an understanding and appreciation of deaf culture.
The success of Humanim's Deaf Services vocational program is directly attributable to the team approach taken by the staff. In this team environment, each individual is assigned to and supported by a team comprised of a Case Manager, Job Developer and Job Coach, whose expertise is in the field of deaf services and vocational counseling. Working together, the team members meet the individual's needs by providing the following levels of vocational support:
The Humanim Case Manager addresses and directs support regarding medical, psychological, vocational and family issues as they affect the individual's employment opportunities.
The Humanim Job Developer provides successful employment placement for the individual based on his or her specific skill levels. This is accomplished by assessing individual skills, developing detailed analyses of job opportunities in line with these skills, and provide ongoing support for the consumer during the application, interview and orientation processes. Job Developers also provide training and support to employers during this process.
The Humanim Job Coach provides support after job placement by providing the appropriate level of training, advocacy and facilitation of communication with the individuals served and the employers.
Utilizing a place-train approach to supported employment, in which individuals work within real job settings rather than artificial training environments, the staff are able to provide valuable 'hands-on' experience to the people it serves. In addition, because programs are tailored to the specific needs of the individual, Humanim is able to match individual skill level and job readiness with a variety of employment opportunities for long-term success. Programs and services include:
Rehabilitation Employment for Deaf Individuals (REDI) Humanim's Rehabilitation Employment for Deaf Individuals (REDI) provides vocational support for individuals who require short-term vocational services in order to acquire and maintain employment.
Rehabilitation Services for the Deaf (RSD) Humanim's Rehabilitation Services for the Deaf is a Day Program that provides job assessment and training for deaf individuals with multiple disabilities who require long-term vocational support.
Job Placement/Coaching Within both the REDI and RSD programs, the Humanim team provides job placement and coaching designed to encourage maximum independence and to promote community and worksite integration. To that end, programs and services incorporate all stages of vocational readiness - from placing individuals in community enclaves, work centers and temporary placements to better evaluate and prepare them for independent work to providing ongoing case management and support before, during and after independent employment is obtained.
