Our communities' hope for tomorrow rests in the potential of the youth of today. Humanim is working to support, develop, and strengthen today's young people, and increase their chances for success in school, the community, and at work.
Start on Success - SOS
SOS is an award winning program that was initially launched by Humanim in 1997, as a collaborative effort with the National Organization on Disability. SOS is a partnership between Humanim, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), local school systems, and numerous employer partners. SOS provides high school students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in paid internships during their senior year of high school. Employer partners host student interns, serve as industry advisors, and provide mentors for each participating youth. In addition to paid internships, SOS students also receive career assessments, classroom instruction, work readiness training, assistance with job placement and job support after graduation. SOS is currently operating in Baltimore City, Harford County, Howard County, and Anne Arundel County, and has assisted over 700 youth in making a successful transition from school to work.
Ready to Achieve Mentoring Program - RAMP
In partnership with the Institute for Educational Leadership, Humanim provides a career-focused mentoring program for Baltimore City youth with disabilities and/or those at-risk or involved with the juvenile justice system. Youth participate in weekly group career development sessions, receive individualized mentoring from industry leaders, and complete high-tech STEM projects which are showcased at a year-end celebration.
